2026-09-05 The first real calls have been placed: five ended normally, six failed. Here is what broke.

Comparison

CallAgent and Vapi solve the same problem from two different ends.

Vapi is a hosted voice AI platform for developers, in production for some time. CallAgent puts the voice agent, the switch and the contact centre in one product, and you can install it on your own server.

Choose Vapi if you want the cheapest platform minute, a service already carrying real traffic, and certifications. Choose CallAgent if you need human operators and a switch in the same product, installation on your own infrastructure, or a product in Romanian.

The rule this page is written under: every row has a sentence in both columns and no ticks; everything we say about Vapi is read off their own public pages; and the rows we lose stay in the table, marked. If you find something wrong here, tell us and we will fix the page.

§01 Who for

They are not the same product, although they look it

CallAgent is for you if…

You already have people answering the phone and you want the AI to take only the repetitive part, with the rest reaching them — on the same call, without ringing the customer again. Or you need the data and the recordings to sit on your own infrastructure. Or you work in Romania and want the console, the guides and the billing in Romanian.

Vapi is for you if…

You are building a product around the voice agent and want only the platform, as cheap per minute as possible, with nothing to administer. Or you need a vendor with real traffic behind it today, with SOC 2, HIPAA and PCI, and a vendor-managed European region.

§02 Table

Ten dimensions, four of them lost

A comparison table with no losing rows is not worth reading. Four of the rows below go to Vapi and are marked as such, and one of them matters most to the majority of companies.

CallAgent compared with Vapi, September 2026.
Dimension CallAgent Vapi
what it actually is A voice agent platform, a SIP PBX and a contact centre, in one console and on one invoice. A voice agent platform for developers, with an API, SDKs and a dashboard of its own.
human operators Queues, skills, a browser softphone, dispositions, wrap-up, and a human taking the call over without the caller being rung again. A supervisor console with listen, whisper and barge, which needs a registered softphone for the supervisor. Warm transfer and blind transfer to a number or a SIP endpoint. Their documentation does not describe an agent desktop, a queue or a supervisor console.
telephony Twilio works end to end. Our own FreeSWITCH switch and SIP trunks are built, but an inbound call over a trunk does not reach an assistant yet. Twilio, Telnyx, Plivo, DIDWW, DIDLogic, Zadarma, Amazon Chime and a bring-your-own SIP trunk, all documented as working.
where it runs Hosted, or installed on your own server: the whole stack runs in containers with a documented install. Recordings and transcripts can be written straight into your own bucket. Their hosted service only. We found no self-hosting option anywhere on their site. They do have a documented EU region, with resources pinned to it.
Romanian The console, the guides, the billing and the documentation are in Romanian, and the personal-data masking recognises the Romanian CNP. The language is set per assistant and has to be set explicitly; the default is still "multi". An English product and English documentation. Their docs give per-provider language counts but do not enumerate languages and never mention Romanian, so we say nothing about how well it works there.
platform price Vapi wins this row €0.10 per minute, on the real billable seconds. Provider costs at their price, or nothing from us if you bring your own keys. $0.05 per minute, plus provider costs at their price, or nothing if you bring your own keys. Ten concurrent lines included, then $10 per line per month.
selectable providers Vapi wins this row Five language models, twelve transcription services and exactly one voice provider open today. The rest have adapter code and are marked not implemented. A much wider catalogue of voices and models, all open, plus a selectable speech-to-speech path.
real traffic Vapi wins this row Eleven real calls, six of which failed, and no customer served. We have run no volume and taken no real payment. A product in production, with paying customers and real volume.
certifications Vapi wins this row None. There is no external audit and no third-party penetration test has been done. SOC 2, HIPAA and PCI-DSS stated publicly, with HIPAA and zero data retention as paid monthly add-ons.
cost transparency Every call has per-stage cost rows stored immutably: quantity, unit cost, where the quantity came from, and whether the price was verified. A stage with no published price enters at zero and is visibly empty. Their dashboard shows usage and cost; we did not find a documented per-call, per-stage breakdown stored per call, so we do not assert there is none — only that we could not verify it.

The Vapi figures are read from vapi.ai and docs.vapi.ai in September 2026. Prices and capabilities of a product under development change; if you find a difference, check their source before ours.[1]

§03 Against

When not to pick us

There are situations where the right answer is Vapi, or somebody else. We write them here because otherwise you would find them after signing.

§04 Differences

What we do differently

Four things, each checkable in the product or in the code rather than four adjectives.

Contact centre included

Queues, operators and the supervisor are in the same product as the assistant, not a second vendor to wire in.

Runs at your place

A documented container install, and recordings written straight into your own bucket across eight destinations.

A Romanian product

Console, guides, billing and CNP masking. Not a translation of an English product.

Per-stage cost

Immutable rows per call, with the source of the quantity and a flag for whether the price was checked against the vendor.

§05 Questions

What people ask before choosing

Which is cheaper, CallAgent or Vapi?

Vapi, at the platform-fee level: $0.05 per minute against our €0.10. Both add provider costs at their price on top and both drop that to nothing if you bring your own keys, so the real difference is the platform fee. If you also need human operators, on Vapi those would come from a second vendor and the price comparison is no longer between these two numbers.

Can I move an assistant from Vapi to CallAgent?

The concepts overlap heavily — assistant, transcriber, model, voice, tools, MCP servers, numbers — but there is no automatic import and we do not pretend there is. You rewrite the prompt and the tools; what does not move at all are the voice providers we have not opened yet.

Which works better in Romanian?

We cannot honestly answer the voice-and-transcription-quality half, because that depends on the provider you choose and Vapi publishes nothing about Romanian anywhere. What we can say is that our product is in Romanian — console, guides, billing, CNP masking — and theirs is in English.

Can Vapi be installed on my own servers?

We found no self-hosting option on their site and the product is offered as a hosted service; they do have a documented EU region instead. CallAgent installs on your own server, with the install documented and the whole stack in containers.

Why does your page say things in their favour?

Because anyone reading a comparison opens the other page too. A table where we win ten rows out of ten convinces nobody, and if you catch it in a single error you stop believing any row. We would rather lose four rows openly.

§06

What to do next

If you have read this far, the next step is not to sign up but to read the page that says what does not work. If it still makes sense after that, the console is open.

Still not sure which way to go

You have read the honest version, including the part where the other one wins. If your case is the one this page says to pick them for, we will say so again on a call rather than sell around it.
